Today s work consists of three pipes. The first pipe is very special as it is to comemorate the birth of this customers first child, sometime in the next two weeks. The pipe is being rushed out so the proud father can smoke it on his son s birthday. Pipe is stamped with the child s name and later a birthdate will be added.The pipe, appropriately enough, is a Prince. The finish is similar to UB 270 which was shown last nite except the understain was left a little darker for more contrast.
After to continued problems with the camera I m moving it into its own lighted cubicle. Hopefully this will help with the blurry shots, as the above.
The next two pipes are for two very special fellows in the Pipe world. Tom Dunn, of the Pipe Smokers Ephemeris and Joel Farr of Pipe Friendly magazine. I received a few pipes back from a store for trade. Apparently, they sat in a drawer for years and were only recently re-discovered. The store owner decided to get new stock. I happened to be reading the Ephemeris when they came in and I noticied a similarity between one of the pipes and the one in Tom s logo. I decided to send him the pipe. (Which I finally got around to doing today with my yearly contribution) The pipe is dated 1984 and was made by me It has nice grain and is a natural finish, which doesn t show up well. Here it is:
The next pipe, Joel Farr, asked me to make for him at the Corps show in Richmond. Besides being a great supporter of pipes and of me personally I was happy to be able to do this for him. Joel likes large (Dr. Bob size) pipes. This one is a BB Blast, (blasted by Paul) It s 3.5 " tall and 2.5" wide. I have moved the camera to a different spot and at least the pipe isn t blurry !
