Todays work consists of a special order Walnut Caldron for Tony Sheppard of ASP. Not many special orders in a long time have taken me as many attempts as this one did. While I did get more than my share of out an out rejects I just couldn t hit the right combination of grain and finish for Tony. I think it took 4 days to get this pipe. I made four Black & Tans, 2 which were sold and two listed below, the 4 star yesterday and a couple Blasts and Corals which aren t finished yet. But I thik the wait ws worth it. This pipe grades out as a 1 star, Walnut , Size 5:
Two other pipes in the Black & Tan finish are listed on the web catalog .The first, BT 41 has nicer grain than UB 279, the Caldron featured yesterday. I hit one small flaw which neccessitated carving the lower half of the bowl or else it would have been a 5 star or gold star. Such is life....
The second pipe, BT 42 is a varaition on the Black and Tan finish. It s a Mocha smooth and a brown Coral combination:
